Now that it's getting warmer outside we'll also go outside during the day to get some sunshine. We will bring Captain a treat and wait at the fence for him to come over. She will reach out to touch his nose and then scream and shiver with delight, it's so adorable. Captain just stands real still and lets Samantha pat his nose, I think he knows she's a baby and can't hurt him.
So Samantha hit her six month mark on our first trip to Tulsa. My parents bought us a plane ticket so we could visit. I was so nervous about our first airplane trip but it went much better than I expected. I borrowed a carrier from my sister and wore Samantha instead of pushing her in a stroller. My mom had secured a car seat for us to use in Tulsa so I didn't have to worry about bringing one on the plane. Samantha did great on the plane and had no problem with the pressure changes and all that. During the flight she just wanted to interact with everyone. On every flight the passengers around us commented on her pleasant disposition. I managed to get her to nap during most of the flights so that helped keep her happy but she did throw a fit on our last flight home to North Carolina. I tried everything I could think of to get her to sleep but nothing was working. I finally worked up the nerve to nurse her knowing that she would be asleep in a couple of minutes. So, thats what I did and she was out like a light for the rest of the flight. And even thought I was surrounded by men I know they were all grateful for the peace and quiet. I conquered alot of my fears on this "first flight" experience and I'm thankful that it all went better than I assumed. I don't know how often I'll be flying with Samantha I just hope that I don't have to do it by myself all the time. However, I have more confidence now that we have one under our belt.
Going home to Tulsa was wonderful because Samantha got to meet family and friends for the first time. Andree has two daughters and her youngest, Abigail, is only six months older than Samantha. However, I think Samantha is probably twice the size of Abby. It was so cute to watch them play together because Samantha doesn't interact with many other children. And Avery was super excited to play with "baby Samantha", she wanted to hold her all the time. It was such a wonderful feeling to watch my sisters kids play with my daughter. I grew up playing with lots of cousins and have fond memories of those times, I miss that Samantha doesn't have that right now. However, I know she will grow up knowing who her extended family is no matter how far apart they may live.
While we were there Andree wanted to get some professional pictures taken with all the girls. Abigail was turning one on February 25th and Samantha turned six months old on February 21st so it seemed appropriate to get some pictures taken. I had not had any professional pics taken of Samantha since she was seven days old so I was not prepared for the chaos that ensues when trying to take pictures of TWO active babies. It was so fun though and some of the pictures turned out really well. At first Samantha didn't know what was going on but when she figured out that the bright flashing lights were for her she started to smile.
Our time in Tulsa passed very quickly but we were ready to go home too. Brent was missing Samantha and I know it would be hard for me to be away from her for an entire week. And I have to admit, as much as I would enjoy living closer to my family I also enjoy "my" family and the simplicity of our own lives. Plus it makes the times that we spend with our extended family much more valuable and memorable.
